Bart Got A Room...

I don't know anything about this movie, but I LOVE William H. Macy and this trailer is pretty funny.

The main reason I am posting this is b/c they say "Bart" like 20 times and I love it...and I think I know someone else that will love it too.

Secret to a good life is knowing when your through...

Hello Friends,

It's late right now and I'm bored waiting for the wife to get home from work. Just wanted to give you a quick update on what I feel this blog is all about...FRIENDS.

I went and saw Rancid tonight at the festival pier on Delaware Ave. This place sucks, but I have seen Rancid every time they have been in Philly since they started coming here except twice. And more times then I can count Mike and Keely have been with me. I'm pretty sure that when they played the Troc 2 years ago, I saw them both nights, with Keely who was PREGNANT at the time. She love Lars.

Anyway, tonight they opened for Rise Against, who might be really good for the kids, but seriously, Rancid should not be opening for anyone at this point. I understand that we all need to make some money to survive, but the giant SKOAL tent in the parking lot area more than likely has nothing to do with Rancid. I will never ever knock this band for anything they do, but I hope from now on they stay away from the 104.5 sponsored Live Nation nonsense. Like I said, we all need to survive and so does Rancid, but all the corporate shit is uncalled for. They know they don't need it ...but whatever, they fed their kids tonight.

This being said, we got there right when Billy Talent got done. In my eyes they could just be called NO Talent and it all works out perfectly. Actually this was the first time I ever bought a ticket from a scalper. I don't know how "punk rock" this is or not, but I wanted to see my favorite band and not pay 45 dollars to do so. It all worked out in the end and the only thing that happened is that me and Mike had to go the the men's line and Keely to the girls line to get patted down.

On to the actual show. We decided we were going to kick back and just watch because we are old but as soon as they came on, opening with "Radio" we knew it didn't make a fucking difference, we were going to the front and getting into it. This is exactly what happened. It actually worked out perfectly b/c we couldn't find Keely and then all of a sudden she was right in front with us.

I'm not going to be able to tell you what songs they played in any order, but they played every song for us. All the punk rockers and the moon stompers were out in full force. I never had so many mohawks and freedom spikes go in my mouth at one time ever.

I feel like I am kind of rambling here but the bottom line is this...these mother fuckers are for real. Just watching them play together and interact is worth it all. Just seeing Mike and Keely, my "crew" for the night was incredible.

I guess the whole deal is this. I'm getting older. But the songs and music still mean as much to me now as they did 15 years ago. I crowd surfed tonight for christ's sake. Roots Radicals just means that much to me. It feels good to be a part of this thing we call punk rock. Every aspect of it.

But like I said, I'm getting older. And like this post's title says "The secret to a good life is knowing when your through." I hardly think I'm through. But I've still had a good life...and I got more life to live.

Totally drunk by the way.

Hope you keep coming back.

Coming up next...Philadelphia Brewing Company vs. Yards. PS...I drink Miller Lite so what the fuck do I know, actually, right now I'm drinking Genesee Cream Ale, so fuck it all together. BUT I went on both of their tours so I will compare those.

You also are entitled to Crue Fest 2: The Dismissal...it's coming.

Right now I'm listening to Johnny 99 by the Boss. The Nebraska version, which is amazing, but the live version is great too. The Loved Ones do a great version as well...ok, Highway Patrolman is on now. I'm drunk, friends. Getting married in less than a month. Talk soon.

Good Night.

End Transmisson.

Crue Fest Part I: The Arrival

Ok, so I know a lot of you have been waiting to hear about Crue Fest. Well here it is...from my notebook to your screen. This could take a while.

I will preface this post by letting you know that I will be dividing this into 2 sections. The Arrival and The Dismissal. The Arrival will document the goings on in the parking lot, The Dissmissal, the goings on in the Susquehanna Bank Center or the Suque Center (Suck Center), as I will now refer to this venue. That being said, here we go.

So I woke up Sunday morning feeling pretty good. Made some coffee, watched some TV. The old lady hit the road to go the the beach, so I had the run of the place. Around 10:30, the calls start. "You ready?" "Don't forget the grill." "We will be there at noon." Wait, doesn't this thing start at 5? Well, I knew what I was in for at this point. Crue Fest. An all day event of parking lot nonsense and a bunch of shitty bands, obviously the Crue not included. Of course like 12 dudes were supposed to go but as always at the last minute 6 bail. No biggie, more room in the Minnie Winnie. Oh, yes that's right, we went to this "fest" in a 25 year old Winnebago. Ballin.

Here it is:

You should know that as it is sitting there parked it is making all kinds of noise. Not even running. Banging and clanging. Turns out it's the generator. Keeps the refrigerator running. Good enough. We get in, I take shot gun, Mike starts it. Well tries to start it. She's an old girl, likes to be tickled. After a few stomps on the gas, we hit the sweet spot and she comes alive. Real bitch this thing is. Finally on the road.

We arrive at the parking lot with no fanfare. Just a line of cars that we are at the end of. Costs 40 bucks to park this thing. Parking lot is mostly dead at arrival. I guess we got there around 1:00. We set up the tent, got the chairs out and started to prepare for the afternoon. I had to raise the antenna and scope out the area:

Then, at 1:16 this happened:

That's Capp.

So is this:

He "lives for this fucking shit." As you can clearly see.

Capp is the man. He is a pretty even keeled dude but give him a parking lot, no sun screen, booze and a grill and he turns pretty quickly into what
I now refer to as "Concert Capp." He had a fucking blast. I wound up with a few bruises here and there and a sore neck, but hey, it's all in fun and I'm glad he was there.

The parking lot was pretty weak. I mean I'm not expecting Heavy Metal Parking Lot, but at least some naked girls and wild dudes. No such luck. Mostly non-metal dudes and college kids wearing sandels drinking Natty Lite. I'm pretty sure I'm old now b/c I haven't had a Natty Lite in like 10 years. To give you an example of how weak the lot was, here is a conversation I had with a gentleman in line at the porto-johns: Him: DUDE. Your whole back is tattooed. Me: Yes, I know. HIM: This parking lot SUCKS DICK. ME: YEA! HIM: DUDE, there isn't even any nitrous. The only dude that had it filled up like 5 balloons and the cops swarmed him. ME: That sucks, bro! (at this point the john opened and I went in.) Don't know if my boy got his balloons or not.

For some reason, we decided that we were going to have a full on picnic at this thing. Following are some of the food items that were on hand:

BBQ Shrimp Wrapped in Bacon:

Hamburgers:

Chicken and Chorizo (I know, I said the same thing):

Some sort of Asian Cole Slaw (this shit was so fucking good):

BBQ Pulled Pork (30 lbs, also amazing):

You will notice that the pork is in a crock pot. That's right, this shit was made the night before. Slow cooked all night. Dan kills it. Every time. Go read his blog if you like food.

www.realfoodratings.blogspot.com

The intention was to sell this pork, but the 5-0 said we needed a permit. Funny thing is as Dan was walking towards the cop, the K9 in the back started going ape shit. I wonder why. Here is our attempt at "selling" the pork.

This is getting kinda long now, so I will start to summarize. We drink all day. I put on SPF 75 lotion. Still get a little burnt. Capp puts on SPF 0 and gets FRIED. I think I heard "FUCK THAT, Sunblock is for pussies!" 1 hour later Jeremy is rubbing his back with a rolling rock can. We goofed around and ate and drank for a few hours. Kinda boring but great being with friends. I could have sat there all day. Great view of the city. Right under the Ben Franklin. Nice breeze. Good company. Can't beat it. Well now it's 8:00 and we decide to go in. We figured we safely missed Charm City Devils (whatever that is), Theory of a Dead Man (again, whatever that is), Drowning Pool (didn't that dude die) and if all went well, we would get just the tail end of the worst thing to happen to an Alice In Chains song, Godsmack. Of course before we went in this happened:

That my friends is the "phone call". You know exactly what phone call I mean. This one turned out pretty good though, considering the circumstances. Then Capp pissed on a car. Parking lot over.

All in all a great day for drinking and hanging with friends. And it only cost 40 bucks, plus food, plus gas, plus tolls...so yea, it wasn't cheap. But it was fun as hell thanks to Capp, Jeremy, Note, Dan and Mike. Thanks for the ticket and the great times.

If you want to see more pictures go check out my facebook page. I don't know what the link is, but right now only my friends will probably read this, so you know where to go.

This is my first big blog post, still getting the hang of it and I don't know the rules yet...you know what, fuck that. I post as long or as short as I want to. This is for me...and you. That being said, I hope you enjoyed The Arrival. Stayed tuned for Crue Fest Part II: The Dismissal.

No Logos

I made the first of many new logos for the blog. I designed it all by myself. I guess a monkey could have done just as good, but I'm proud of it. There is a little meaning to it, but nothing so crucial that all you fuckers need to know. Besides, it's not that hard to figure out either. I hope you like it. If you don't, don't look at it I guess. Please don't steal it either.

Thanks.

Harmony In My Head

So this past Saturday was our wedding shower. I got fucking blasted. I'll have some pics for you to look at but here's basically how it went...Got there around 11:30 with Josh and Joan. Josh is the chef. He fucking rules. There was no booze on hand at this point, but it was coming, soon enough. Me and Josh shucked some corn and he showed me the most amazing burgers I have ever seen or tasted. Ground beef, ground sausage, parmesean cheese and something else I can't remember. I have never had a burger that tasted this good. No condiments either, and that is amazing for me b/c I can't not have ketchup...on everything. Around 2ish all the ladies started showing up and just standing around and doing what ladies do at this type of event. Josh and I started cooking and the beer came. We then started drinking (this went on till about midnight). I'm too old to be up till 4 and 5 in the morning anymore. Me and Joan played this newlywed game that we destroyed, only got one question wrong. About 5 all the dudes started coming in and then it was complete game over...no more water in between beers...scotch? of course we can do shots of that, Dad. My Mom and Dad are fucking awesome and my mom only cryed a little bit when I told her she has to dance with me at the wedding. My dad just wears sunglasses and keeps it real. He has been wearing the Rayban Warfarers since before the first time they were cool...so take note you hipster fucks, you didn't start it, you just ruined it. I kinda feel like I'm rambling here so I will get to the point...I love my life, family, friends and (future) wife more than I can imagine I could ever love something. This day made me realize that it's not all about what you have tangibly...it's about who you get to spend your time with. (Even though I did buy a new TV yesterday). A few shoutouts...Mike and Keely, I cannot even find the words. Josh and Kim, thanks for being genuine, real fucking people. Everyone who was there and supported us, thanks for everything. And thanks for the presents. And thanks Joan, without you, there is no me.

Sorry for being sappy(ish).

I will have more fun the next time.

Early To Finish, I Was Late To Start

Hello People,

As you can see it's been awhile since I have updated this blog. I guess the reason for it is that I haven't quite decided the direction it's going to take. I mean we have about 5 posts about Death Magnetic and then Phillies stuff. A little scattered and not to well written, in my humble opinion. Well when I woke up this morning I thought about this blog and said to myself, "Self, you need to get this thing going." That being said, I have decided to use this blog as a window into all things me. Anything that is happening with me in my life that I deem interesting enough to share with the world, I will post on here. I will do record/album reviews (not good ones, but reviews just the same). I will tell you about my wedding. I will let you know when the Phillies do something great. I will post tons of pictures and tell you what I ate last night. I will be a major dick and the nicest dude ever. My main vow is that I will try to make you laugh and keep you from your boredom as much as possible. I will offend people, so don't be a baby. I will do my best to keep this as up to date as possible.

So that being said, got check this out for now. This blog is brand new as of today and all you fat kids like me out there will love it.

Phaith

This is what the fuck I'm talking about.

Now I have never been a huge sports fan, but for the last few years I have been following this team. People always talk shit about Philly fans and their teams and this and that, but now it's our time to shine. Last night was amazing. It's what playoff baseball is all about. Emotion. I never really let sports get the better of me emotionally. I try not to invest my feelings to much b/c the heartbreak is crushing. But I'm in. After Sunday's bench clearer I was in. I felt myself get mad. I wanted to go through the TV and rip Manny Ramirez's fucked up dreads right of his head, jump rope with them and shove them down his fat throat. I wished Shane Vicotorino would womp on some asses. But he was a man about it. We lost that game, but I knew Shane would have his revenge. I'm sure you all saw it last night, Victorino basically ass fucking Dodger Stadium, but did you see is face. Emotion. He wants something. Matt Stairs. 17 seasons in the majors, has his first playoff home run last night to win the game. He wants something. Chase Utley, a one man out machine with diving double plays. He wants something. WE want something. And even if we don't get exactly what we want, we got something last night. Hope. Hope for the underdog. Hope for old school guys eyein' down the end what they know. Hope for the fans. But most of all, hope for some positive light to be shed on this fair city of ours.

Thank you Philadelphia Phillies, for renewing my faith in hope. Christ knows I need it right now...more on that later.

PS. FUCK LA....fuck it.

Hypocrite...Hypocrite

Although it may seem like it, this blog is not about the new Metallica album exclusively. I am going to get this out of the way fairly quickly as there are other more important matters at hand, such as:

That being said, the new Metallica album Death Magentic is good. Real good. The lyrics/vocals have much to be desired but musically they still have it. I mean it's not Master of Puppets, but it is ...And Justice For All. The songs are long and all over the place, but it works. I'm not going to get into a whole review of every song here, b/c frankly I don't care that much to examine every minute of a 115 minute album. So here's a summary:
1. That Was Just Your Life - Great opener. Has the staple James "dunna dunna dun" riffs.
2. The End of the Line - Staying strong.
3. Broken, Beat and Scarred - I'm not sure if I hate the part that comes in at 1:04 or if I love it. I think I love it.
4. The Day That Never Comes - sounds like Nickelback with wild ass solos.
5. All Nightmare Long - This is a classic. That rhythm sound familiar to anyone...oh wait, it's Metallica. Nailed it on this on.
6. Cyanide - I want to drink some after hearing that wah. Who is on the bass here, DJ Magic Mike?
7. The Unforgiven III - There is no forgiving this. Piano? Yea. Piano.
8. The Judas Kiss - eh...take it or leave it.
9. Sucide and Redemption - didn't get through all this. Instrumental. Bringing back but definitely no Dyer's Eve.
10. My Apocalypse - they must have gotten the old amps from Kill Em All out for this one. Good closer.

That's it. No more talk about Metallica on my blog until January 18th.

Youth of Today and the early 7 Seconds...

Friends,

Saw The Hold Steady last night at the TLA. This guys are pretty fucking great. Finally a new(er) band that I don't hate. Probably b/c if I started a band it would be the same thing. Non-practicing Catholic, 30 something, semi-overweight ex hardcore kids that like to drink and play rock n roll. They played a fast set, only 40-minutes b/c they opened for tall 50-something grunge pioneers who make a lot of noise, Sonic Youth. I saw Thurston Moore meandering around the crowd and that dude is tall. They were never my thing, I did however like old Thurston's solo album, Psychic Hearts. Anyway, The Hold Steady. Craig Finn is a madman on the stage. I thought he might start convulsing at one point. He is the preacher in this congregation, with the participants holding on to his every word. The rest of the band sounded tight, a little muddy maybe b/c we were in the balcony, but tight just the same. The highlight was mustachioed keyboardist Franz Nicoli magically flipping a bottle of wine out of no where and just getting after it. First time I saw that, instead of beer the band is slangin' back merlot. Actually, I think Peter Steele from Type O Negative might have done that. But he's a vampire so that's different. After the Hold Steady we bounced. A big shot out goes to that ole' Slother who sped me to the Conshy McDonalds so I (and him and the wife) wouldn't piss our pants. And extra-special big up to Steve Gigs, who even though I don't see him to often, never fails to disappoint. That music was beautiful, wasn't it?

Facing The Thing That Should Not Be

Just heard 2 NEW Metallica songs. I mean did you really think they were going to go back to Master of Puppets? C'mon. Being a genuine Metallica fan I held hope for this. Especially with Rick Rubin at the helm. Sadly, I'm disappointed, and have been for a long time. When I first heard Metallica it blew my mind. I was a young kid, probably 13ish. My uncle, the resident family metal-head that let me know that Iron Man was not just the Road Warriors theme music, gave me a tape for my birthday. On said Maxell C90 you would find Canada's other power trio, Triumph's classic 1981 gem Allied Forces on Side A. Side B is where it all came together. Kill 'Em All. From that first pick slide in Hit the Lights I was hooked. That's it. No more stupid ass hip-hop from the moron's in Saint Francis. It was Metallica, all day everyday (and Kiss), but that's for another day. I needed to consume Metallica all of it. I figured out how to write my name like their logo. I got the back catalog, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. Bought my first piece of vinyl at Listening Booth in the King of Prussia Plaza, ...And Justice For All. By the time I hit high school Nothing Else Mattered. The Black Album came out, and although an obvious pre-cursor to what was to follow in the next 10 years, it still ruled. My first band played Enter Sandman at a talent show. Saw Suicidal and Danzig open for them at the Mann. Was in the Snake Pit at the Spectrum. By the time high school ended Metallica had fallen out of grace with faithful. Load and ReLoad came out. No one cared. Something else might have come out in there...no one cared. Then St. Anger. I mean Robert Trujillo is on that shit. Anyone that was in Suicidal won't put their name on garbage. Stupid me. I didn't really even give a shit. But now here we are...2008 and a new Metallica album is upon us. So much hype. Rick Rubin. So much hype. "return to Master of Puppets." So much hype. So much crap. Those 2 songs that I heard are horrid. They sound like Nickelback and the try to sound like Metallica. You know that saying, "there is no 'I' in team." Guess what, there is no "Metal" in Metallica, I don't care if it's the first five letters of the name or not. I mean you don't forget how to right like that, do you? There is a part on that one song that get's close. It's in the last few minutes, i think the 3rd solo or something that almost gets close to a rhythm i'm familiar with. That's about it. There are still like 10 other songs on the album, so before I bash the whole thing, I will give it a try. I'm sure I won't be happy though. All that being said, I will be in the Snake Pit at the Wachovia Center on January 17th, if you are looking for me that night.

End Transmission.

oh and one more thing....
I'm surprised this headstone didn't fall over with all the rolling over that must be going on underneath it...
